HomeMy WebLinkAbout19612 ORD - 01/20/1987A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CORPUS CHRISTI/NUECES COUNTY KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL, INC. FOR THEIR COMPREHENSIVE AND SYSTEMATIC APPROACH TO THE DISPOSAL FITTER AND TRASH AND FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING EFFORTS TO PROMOTE AND ENCOURAGE COOPERATION AMONG BUSINESSES, GOVERNMENT, CIVIC GROUPS, NEWS MEDIA AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO CREATE A CLEAN CITY; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. WHEREAS, the Keep America Beautiful, Inc. was organized to aid in the beautification of the Corpus Christi/Nueces County community through public awareness and education; WHEREAS, the Keep America Beautiful, Inc.• implemented a litter abatement program by instituting a comprehensive and systematic approach regarding the disposal of litter and trash through such avenues as sponsoring community special events, workshops, beach cleanup projects, community awards, litter/safety control workshops for business and industry, programs for elementary and secondary schools with community enhancement awards given for excellence, and conducting a media awareness campaign; and WHEREAS, the Keep America Beautiful, Inc. has been recognized on a local, state and national level for its outstanding efforts by receiving the 1986 Governor's Community Achievement Award for excellence in civic pride, received a First Place National Award for "Keep America Beautiful Week" for community efforts, received a Second Place National Award for the Keep America Beautiful System's effectiveness in motivating the community towards enhancing the quality of life, and, received a Second Place National Award for "Take Pride in America/Public Lands Day" for outstanding stewardship efforts and activities on public lands; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: Section 1. Keep America Beautiful, Inc. be commended for its unstinting effort, organizational ability, outstanding professionalism, and urge that they accept the gratitude of the City Council and all citizens of Nueces County. Section 2. That upon written request of the Mayor, or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire of the Council to express its support and gratitude at the earliest practicable date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take 03G.302 19612` MICROFILMED effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 20th day of January, 1987.
