HomeMy WebLinkAbout19629 ORD - 02/12/1987A RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the Texas State Aquarium has been designated the "official Aquarium of Texas" by the 69th Texas State Legislature; and WHEREAS, the voters of the City of Corpus Christi in 1986 voted to support City involvement in the Texas State Aquarium by authorizing the City to issue $4 million in municipal improvement bonds for roads, public parking, site preparation, and protection; and WHEREAS, the building of the Texas State Aquarium will enhance the educational and cultural opportunities available to Corpus Christi area residents and visitors; and WHEREAS, the opening of the Texas State Aquarium will stimulate economic development and tourism opportunities in our community and our region; and WHEREAS, hundreds of Corpus Christi volunteers have worked diligently and contributed generously for over fifteen years to bring life to this important facility dedicated to scientific study, information presentation and special care of the aquatic environment of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea; and WHEREAS, 1987 is the year in which the Corpus Christi City Council and Texas State Aquarium supporters hope to bring this community enhancement from the drawing boards into reality; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the year 1987 be declared the Year of the Texas State Aquarium. SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the j74-1day of ,:e_brii&ry , 190 .
