COMMENDING GLEN JOHNSON FOR HIS DEDICATED COMMUNITY SER-
VICES AND CONTRIBUTIONS; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, Glen Johnson, President of Johnson Greenhouses, has pro-
vided community support of various non-profit and charitable organizations
for many years; and
WHEREAS, Glen Johnson proposes a community program entitled Color
Up Corpus Christi to help put more flower color in the Corpus Christi com-
munity, which will include a generous donation of plant material from Johnson
Greenhouses; and
WHEREAS, some of the outstanding accomplishments of Glen Johnson
include donation of Palm Trees to the Flour Bluff Businessman's Association
for landscaping the entrance to the John F. Kennedy Causeway, twenty years
of support to the Corpus Christi Council of Garden Clubs for the annual
Festival of Flowers, blood drive sponsorship for the Coastal Bend Children's
Heart Fund, and contributions of Christmas Baskets and Poinsettia plants to
the City of Corpus Christi Adaptive Programs Section; and
WHEREAS, all of these special events and efforts occurred because
of the dedicated and unselfish devotion of Glen Johnson towards community
enrichment;
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City of Corpus Christi, Texas:
SECTION 1. Glen Johnson be commended for his unselfish commit-
ment towards community enrichment and urge that he accept the gratitude of
the City Council and all of the citizens of Corpus Christi.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council
members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the desire
of the Council to express its support and intent at the earliest practicable
date, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension
of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or reso-
lutions at three regular meetings so that this resolution is passed anT,shall
take fect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the ET day
of , 1987.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance
or resolution, an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule
as to consideration and voting upon ordinances or resolutions at three
regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter rule
and pass this ordinance or resolution finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
