AMENDING THE CITY CODE, CHAPTER 39, PERSONNEL, BY AMENDING
SECTION 39-2, TO ESTABLISH A CLASSIFIED SERVICE AND
EXEMPTIONS; CREATING A NEW SECTION 39-17, CIVIL SERVICE
BOARD COMPENSATION; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; AND PROVIDING
FOR PUBLICATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Code, Chapter 39, Personnel, Section 39-2,
is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 39-2. Classified service and exemptions.
There is hereby created in accordance with Article VII,
Section 1, City Charter, a classified service consisting of
all employees except those employees designated as exempt
herein. The following shall be exempt from the classified
service: all employees listed as belonging to the
"Managerial Group" under Section 510 of the City
Compensation and Classification Plan; the principal
secretary of the city manager, deputy and assistant city
managers, assistants to the city manager, judges and clerk
of the municipal court, department and division heads, city
secretary, city attorney, and assistant city attorneys;
members of the council; members of boards and commissions in
the city's service; and officers and employees of classes or
departments within the civil service statutes of Texas.
SECTION 2. That the City Code, Chapter 39, Personnel, is hereby
amended by creating a new Section 39-17, Civil service bEFTZ7nTensation, to
read as follows:
Sec. 39-17. Civil service board compensation.
The members of the board shall each receive five dollars for
each meeting of the board attended, not to exceed one
hundred dollars in any fiscal year.
SECTION 3. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City
Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.

SECTION 4. Publication shall be made one time in the official
publication of the City of Corpus Christi by publishing the caption stating in
substance the purpose of the ordinance, this ordinance to become effective upon
such publication.
