HomeMy WebLinkAbout19942 ORD - 08/25/1987AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE 17728, AS AMENDED, THE COMPENSATION AND CLASSIFICATION PLAN, BY AMENDING SECTION 952.3, SO AS TO AUTHORIZE PAYMENT OF ACCRUED SICK LEAVE NOT TO EXCEED 180 DAYS IN CONNECTION WITH AN EARLY RETIREMENT PROGRAM, IN THE CITY MANAGER'S DISCRETION; PROVIDING A DEADLINE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That Ordinance 17728, as amended, is amended by amending Section 952.3 thereof to read as follows: 952.3 A. With the exception of Police Officers and Firefighters covered under a collective bargaining agreement, payment of accrued sick leave not to exceed 90 working days shall be paid to all other employees not under a collective bargaining agreement or their beneficiaries upon termination due to TMRS retirement of any full-time employee, termination at age 62 or over upon completion of a minimum of 10 years continuous service with the City, disability retirement in accordance with TMRS or Social Security regulations, or death. Payment of such accrued sick leave shall be at the rate of the employee's last monthly salary or hourly rate for an equivalent period. 953.3 B. Notwithstanding the above as part of an early retirement program, the City Manager is authorized to grant payment of accrued sick leave not to exceed 180 days at his discretion. The early retirement program and this authorization shall be available to eligible employees who exercise an option not later than 5 p.m., October 31, 1987, provided date of retirement occurs within four months of that date, at the expiration of which payment of accrued sick leave shall revert to 90 days in accordance with Paragraph A of this section. SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an 08P.013.01 19942 MICROPII ED emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall tak effect pon first reading as an emergency measure this the a„j day of , 19V7 .
