ENDORSING "TRANSPORTATION 2020" CONCEPT DEVELOPED BY THE
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOR LONG RANGE TRANSPORTATION
IMPROVEMENTS AFFECTING THE CORPUS CHRISTI BAY AREA.
WHEREAS, the Texas Good Roads/Transportation Association is
cooperating with the Texas Department of Highways & Public Transportation in a
study of Texas transportation needs well into the 21st century, to the year
2020; and
WHEREAS, the Texas 2020 Transportation Project is part of a national
effort sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation
officials to develop a consensus transportation program for Texas; and
WHEREAS, the State's role in the Texas 2020 Transportation Project is
to collect information on local and regional transportation priorities from
Texas cities, counties, Chambers of Commerce, and other groups, covering all
transportation modes including roads, streets, highways, freeways, bridges,
transit, airports, waterways, and railroads; and
WHEREAS, the local Chamber of Commerce has taken the leadership role
in the Corpus Christi metropolitan area to work with the state and local
officials, representatives of private industry and leaders of public interest
groups to assess the transportation needs of the Corpus Christi Metropolitan and
surrounding area through the year 2020;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council endorses "Transportation 2020"
concept developed by the Chamber of Commerce for long range transportation
improvements affecting the Corpus Christi Bay Area.
