AMENDING THE CITY CODE, CHAPTER 39, BY REPLACING SECTION 39-2, CLAS-
SIFIED SERVICE AND EXEMPTIONS; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Code, Chapter 39-2, Classified Service and
Exemptions is hereby amended to read as follows:
There is hereby created in accordance with Article VII, Section I, City
Charter, a classified service consisting of all City employees except those
employees filling positions designated as exempt. The following positions
shall be exempt from the classified service:
(a) All positions included in the "Managerial Group" under Section 510 of
the City's Compensation and Classification Plan.
(b) Each position, regardless of class title or grade, filled by an
employee who functions as the principal secretary to any of the
following positions: City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Municipal
Court Judge, Municipal Court Administrator, Department or Division
Head, City Secretary, City Attorney, and Assistant City Attorney.
(c) All members of the Fire and Police collective bargaining units.
SECTION 2. If, for any reason, any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City
Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
