ENDORSING AND SUPPORTING THE HOLDING OF THE IMCO WORLD'S '89
CHAMPIONSHIP ON CORPUS CHRISTI BEACH
WHEREAS, the Mistral Windsurfing firm from Zurich, Switzerland together with the
IMCO-One-Design Organization of the U.S. wishes to hold the IMCO World Championship
on Corpus Christi Beach in 1989, and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is desirous of promoting sailing events in
Corpus Christi Bay including windsurfing, and
WHEREAS, the proposed IMCO World's '89 would bring together an estimated 300
competitors from around the world and would direct significant world wide attention
to Corpus Christi, now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI
THAT:
Section 1. The City endorses and supports the holding of the IMCO World's '89
on Corpus Christi Beach, and the City pledges to work with Mistral Windsurfing, A.G.
and with the IMCO-One-Design organization to facilitate the proposed world event;
and,
Section 2. Authorizing the City Manager or his designee to work with Mistral
Windsurfing, A.G. to negotiate a contract for the use of Corpus Christi Beach for the
world championship and to assist in promoting and supporting the activities
associated with the championship.
