AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF AN AGREEMENT DESIGNATING
MAYOR EMERITUS LUTHER JONES THE REPRESENTATIVE TO THE
71ST LEGISLATURE IN MATTERS CONCERNING HIGHER
EDUCATION.
WHEREAS, the opportunity for higher education to the people of South Texas
is a matter of utmost concern and importance, and has been designated as a priority
legislative concern of the City Council; and
WHEREAS, a number of issues concerning institutions of higher education in
South Texas will be considered by the 71st Legislature; and
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi, 4UCC, and the Area Development
Committee/Chamber of Commerce desire to designate Mayor Emeritus Luther Jones to
represent their common interests, such services to be rendered without pay but with
reimbursement of expenses in equal shares.
IT IS, THEREFORE, RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to execute an agreement with
4UCC and the Chamber of Commerce designating Mayor Emeritus Luther Jones as the
representative to the 71st Legislature in matters concerning higher education and
providing funding from the City in an amount not to exceed $10,000.
