AMENDING THE CITY CODE, CHAPTER 2, ADMINISTRATION,
SECTION 2-67, LIMITATIONS ON APPOINTMENTS, SO AS TO ADOPT A
PROHIBITION AGAINST ANY ADVISORY, NON-VOTING MEMBER FROM A
BOARD OR COMMISSION FROM SERVING AS AN ELECTED OR APPOINTED
OFFICER ON THE BOARD OR COMMISSION TO WHICH SUCH PERSON HAS
BEEN APPOINTED; AND PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Code, Chapter, 2, Administration, Section 2-67,
Limitations on appointments, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 2-67. Limitations on appointments.
No person serving on a board, commission or committee of the city
shall be reappointed by the mayor or city council to serve for a
period longer than six (6) years consecutively unless such service on
the board, commission or committee is required by virtue of the
individual's position or title as the result of employment. No person
shall be appointed by the mayor or city council to serve on more than
one board, commission or committee of the city at the same time unless
required by charter, statute or other ordinance or when such service
is required by virtue of the individual's position or title as the
result of employment.
The foregoing limitations do not apply to the appointment of advisory,
nonvoting members to a board, commission or committee of the city.
Any such advisory, nonvoting member appointed to a board, commission,
or committee of the city is prohibited from serving as an elected or
appointed officer of the board, commission, or committee to which such
person has been appointed.
SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City
Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
