SUPPORTING LEGISLATION THAT WOULD PERMIT CITIES TO ESTABLISH
MUNICIPAL DRAINAGE UTILITIES.
WHEREAS, the cost of construction, maintenance, and operation of
municipal drainage systems has increased due to land development and urban
redevelopment; and
WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency has proposed rules
relating to the management of stormwater by municipalities under the Water
Quality Act that will translate into additional increased costs to cities for
operating municipal drainage systems; and
WHEREAS, the ability of a city to establish its drainage system as a
drainage utility would greatly aid cities in meeting the increased costs of
drainage systems;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi urges
and supports legislation that would permit cities to establish municipal
drainage utilities and that the Municipal Drainage Utility Systems Act be
amended in order that its provisions may be utilized by all municipalities.
