HomeMy WebLinkAbout020613 RES - 03/07/1989A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF HOUSE BILL 141 AND SENATE BILL 447 MODIFYING THE LIMITATIONS IN EXISTING STATE LAW ON CRUISE SHIP OPERATION. WHEREAS, The City of Corpus Christi has as first on its highest priority the expansion of tourism to promote economic development of the area; and WHEREAS, House Bill 141 and Senate Bill 447 have been introduced in the 71st Legislature to encourage cruise ship activity operating from Texas ports and assist coastal areas in the development of tourism and the hospitality industry; and WHEREAS, House Bill 141 and Senate Bill 447 will modify the limitations in existing state law on cruise ship operations concerning gambling and would allow Texas ports such as Corpus Christi to compete effectively with similar cruise ship operations on the Gulf Coast; and WHEREAS, the establishment of one -day cruise ship operations out of the Port of Corpus Christi will aid in the establishment of longer-term cruise ship operations in the future; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS THAT: Section 1. The City of Corpus Christi endorses the passage of House Bill 141 or Senate Bill 447 in order to assist the Port of r,Gorpus Christi. Authority in developing cruise ship operations originating from the Corpus Christi area. Section 2. A copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to all of our Corpus Christi area legislators to encourage their support of this critical legislation.
