HomeMy WebLinkAbout020614 RES - 03/07/1989RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE TO APPROPRIATE SUFFICIENT FUNDING FOR THE TEXAS COMMISSION ON THE ARTS TO MAINTAIN OR INCREASE THE LEVEL OF FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR LOCAL ARTS ACTIVITIES. Whereas, the financial support Christi, and Texas Commission on the Arts has provided for eighteen arts organizations in Corpus Whereas, the arts additional resources, and financial support, and Whereas, the public organizations being supported need other arts organizations also need funds allocated for arts support have contributed to the growth and development of the arts in Corpus Christi providing for a better quality of life for Corpus Christi citizens, and Whereas, on February 16, 1989, the House Cultural and Historical Resources Committee met and accepted the Oversight Committee's recommendation that the Texas Commission on the Arts be funded at the $6.7 million level, which is level two of four alternatives considered, and reducing the present level of the financial assistance program by $100,000, and Whereas, a reduction in funding support will adversely affect the continued development of arts. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: Section 1. That the Texas Legislature is requested and encouraged to appropriate sufficient funds to maintain or increase the financial assistance program of the Texas Commission on the Arts. Section `.
