SUPPORTING THE ACTION OF THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS
AND PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION TO EXCHANGE/SELL EXCESS
RIGHT-OF-WAY AT THE INTERSECTION OF RODD FIELD ROAD
(S.H. 357) AND PADRE ISLAND DRIVE (S.H. 358) AND DECLARING
THAT THIS AREA IS NO LONGER NEEDED FOR USE BY CITIZENS FOR
ROADWAY PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, when Lexington Boulevard, Padre Island Drive (S.H. 358), and
Rodd Field Road (S.H. 357) were developed in the early 1940s, a large amount of
right-of-way was acquired for the intersection of these two highways to
accommodate a design utilizing detached right turn lanes; and
WHEREAS, with the development of Padre Island Drive to an expressway
and the Urban Transportation Plans for Rodd Field Road, some of this
right-of-way is now considered to be excess; and
WHEREAS the adjacent property owners have approached the Highway
Department to relinquish their interest in the area and the right-of-way for an
exclusive right turn lane from eastbound Padre Island Drive to southbound Rodd
Field Road would be dedicated in exchange for this release; and
WHEREAS, the Highway Department has asked the City to concur in this
action by passage of a resolution;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports the action of the
State Department of Highways and Public Transportation to exchange/sell excess
right-of-way at the intersection of Rodd Field Road (S.H. 357) and Padre Island
Drive (S.H. 358) and hereby declares that this area is no longer needed for use
by citizens for roadway purposes.
