IN SUPPORT OF HB 2339 AND SCS, SB 1507, RELATING TO THE
PROMOTION AND REGULATION OF THE FISH FARMING INDUSTRY.
WHEREAS, mariculture has the potential to become a large Texas cash crop;
and
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Agriculture appears to be the appropriate
state governmental organization to assist the mariculture industry and regulate such
industry; and
WHEREAS, it is extremely important that potential sources of economic and
job generators be encouraged by organizations of State government.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS
CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi endorses
and supports HB 2339 and SCS, SB 1507 which would place regulation and promotion of
fish farms and cultured fish -processing plants under the Texas Department of
Agriculture.
