AMENDING THE CITY CODE, CHAPTER 13, BUILDINGS; CONSTRUCTION
AND RELATED OPERATIONS; HOUSING AND HOUSING PREMISES
STANDARDS, ARTICLE III, ELECTRICAL, DIVISION 2, ELECTRICAL
CODE, SECTION 13-93, PERMITS AND FEES, BY AMENDING
PARAGRAPHS B AND C; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; PROVIDING FOR
PUBLICATION.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,
TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Code, Chapter 13, Buildings; Construction
Lrc;
c. Replacing florescert ballasts in a residence by the titie

d. °-:lrccr,ert ct receptacles or light switches;
e. Replacement of residential type garbage disposals,
dishwashers and trash compactors provided that the
electrical system is not modified;
f. Replacement of residential type electric water heaters if
wired with copper wire. If wired with aluminum wire a
qualified electrician shall make the connections;
g. Replacing circuit breakers in electric panels with another
circuit breaker of same brand and amperage;
h. Replacement of any florescent ballasts by any licensed
electrician or while on the premises of his employers, by
either a certl ;I;d acc!_ri.;a' riaintenance person or other
person employed to perform building maintenance;
1. Replacement of air conditioning system or furnace if done by
State licensed mechanical contractor with a City mechanical
permit;
j. Oil well pump and service wiring;
k. Changing light bulbs, flood lights or lamps;
1. Maintenance work performed by City licensed electrician on
the premises of his employer;
rn. Replacement of any sign ballast and transformer up to a
rating of 15,000 secondary volts (60 ma), by any City
licensed Master electrician.
(E) An application for Certified Electrical Maintenance Person shall
be made in u, at. btilding Official. The
application shall show the applicant's name and address, and such
other information as may be prescribed by the Examination
Committee, and shall be made out on forms available in the office
of the Chief Inspector. The applicant shall file with his
application a letter bearing the signature of the person by whom
he is regularly employed, the address of the place of employment,
a statement that he will notify the Chief Electrical Inspector of
any change in his employment, and acknowledgement that work time
as d Certified Electrical Maintenance person shall not be

The applicant shall engage in maintenance or repair of electrical
wiring and fixtures. An applicant for certification shall pass a
City of Corpus Christi examination on electrical basics or be
certified through completion of a certified and/or accredited
trade school in the electrical trades or shall have passed an
examination administered through the Southern Building Code
Congress international or other Model Code Agency. Processing of
an application shall he in the same manner provided in
`ectior 1: -64, Examinations -Scheduling; Grading as contained in
tl, 1:_y l:ectiical Licensing Ordinance.
Certification shall be valid upon payment of the fee prescribed
in Section 2, Electrical Code Fees, of the Permit Fee Schedule.

SECTION 2. That the City Code, Chapter 13, Buildings;
Construction and Related Operations; Housing and Housing Premises Standards,
Article III, Electrical, Division 2, Electrical Code, Section 13-93, Permits and
fees, is hereby amended by amending paragraph (c) Permit fees by amending
subparagraphs (2) and (3) to read as follows:

if the office of the Chief Electrical Inspector has not been
notified within seventy-two (72) hours (Saturday, Sunday, and
legal holidays excepted) after a specific job is started, then
the permit fee shall be due in accordance with the Permit
Fee Scheduic.
Irr the event that an inspection is made and the resultant
discovery is that work for which a permit is required by this
code has been done, but the required permit has not been issued
or obtained, then an investigation fee shall be due in accordance
with the Permit Fee Schedule.
SECTION 3. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision,
clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or
unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it
shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word
or provision ur this or• St is the definite intent of this City
Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or
provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose.
SECTION 4. Publication shall be made one time in the official
publication of the City of Corpus Christi by publishing the caption stating in
substance the purpose of the ordinance, this ordinance to become effective upon
such publication.
