HomeMy WebLinkAbout020773 RES - 09/12/1989A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE CITY'S DESIRE TO HOST THE 1992 GAMES OF TEXAS AS SANCTIONED BY THE TEXAS AMATEUR ATHLETIC FEDERATION; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY'S PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT TO MAKE A PRESENTATION TO THE TEXAS AMATEUR ATHLETIC FEDERATION ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF HOSTING THE 1992 GAMES OF TEXAS. WHEREAS, the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation is a non-profit organization representing over 200 municipal park and recreation departments through the state; and WHEREAS, the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation sanctions the annual Games of Texas which involves approximately 12,000 youth and adult amateur sports participants in competition; and WHEREAS, the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation is presently considering Corpus Christi and other Texas cities to host its annual Games of Texas in 1992; and WHEREAS, the Games of Texas provides wholesome exercise, fellowship, recreation, and entertainment which benefits the public generally, and all athletic activities in the community will be greatly enhanced by the hosting of the Games of Texas; and WHEREAS, the City Council finds as a fact that many and various public purposes will be materially promoted and enhanced by the hosting of the 1992 Games of Texas including, but not limited to, tourism, sports and recreation generally, exercise, fellowship, wholesome community activities, employment, and economic activities; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, wishes to express its strong desire to host the 1992 Games of Texas as sanctioned by the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation and is committed to ensuring that the Games of Texas in Corpus Christi is a success. SECTION 2. That the City's Park and Recreation Department is hereby authorized to make a presentation to the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation about the benefits of hosting the 1992 Games of Texas.
