COMMENDING POLICE CHIEF ROBERT K. OLSON FOR HIS SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Robert K. Olson was appointed Police Chief of the
City of Corpus Christi on June 1, 1987; and
WHEREAS, Chief Olson has resigned as Police Chief of the
City of Corpus Christi effective November 1, 1989; and
WHEREAS, Chief Olson promulgated many innovative programs
during this tenure including:
the DARE program;
computer aided dispatch and records management system (CAD) moved
forward;
_ purchase of state of the art radio system for Police, Fire, EMS,
RTA, and City operating departments has been authorized;
_ relocation of police building to new enlarged facility moved
forward;
_ establishment of three outlying assembly areas;
_ increased staffing of Police Department by 10 in fiscal year
1988-89;
_ increased staffing of Police Department by 30 in fiscal year
1989-90;
_ improved schedule of replacement of police vehicles;
_ created the Citizen Civilian Police Academy;
established the Seniors Assisting Seniors Program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council expresses its
appreciation to Robert K. Olson for his tenure as Police Chief and
commends him for his many accomplishments in the department noted here
as well as other accomplishments. The City Council is grateful for
his innovative work here and wishes him well in his future.
SECTION 2. That the City Secretary is hereby directed to
provide a copy of this Resolution of Commendation to Robert K. Olson.
