HomeMy WebLinkAbout021032 1/2 RES - 12/04/1990A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND ENCOURAGING THE VOLUNTARY USE OF PAPER BAGS AS THE BAG TO BE PROVIDED TO RETAIL CONSUMERS BY ALL STORES LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, GROCERY STORES, SUPERMARKETS, PRODUCE STORES, DEPARTMENT STORES, SPECIALTY STORES, VARIETY STORES, AND OTHER SIMILAR STORES PROVIDING RETAIL SERVICES TO CONSUMERS. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI,TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the City Council endorses and encourages the voluntary use of paper bags rather than plastic bags as the bag to be provided to retail consumers at the check-out counter of all stores located within the City of Corpus Christi, as enumerated above. SECTION 2. That the City Council endorses and encourages a store's use of plastic bags for consumer goods only at the consumer's request. SECTION 3. That the City Council encourages grocery stores, supermarkets, produce or meat markets and other similar retail establishments to voluntarily offer both paper and plastic bags for bulk foods, meat and produce departments which are located in the retail store premises. SECTION 4. That the City Council encourages retail and commercial stores and entities to voluntarily provide alternative methods of packing over the use of plastic products. SECTION 5. That the City Council directs that this resolution become an integrated portion of the evolving comprehensive solid waste management policy. SECTION 6. The effective date of this resolution shall be December 1, 1990.
