URGING STATE AGENCIES TO CONSIDER THE CONCERNS OF THE
PRESENT LESSEES OF STATE LAND ON THE JOHN F. KENNEDY
MEMORIAL CAUSEWAY, AND SUPPORTING THE EFFORTS OF
SENATOR CARLOS TRUAN AND REPRESENTATIVE TODD
HUNTER.
WHEREAS, lessees of State lands on the John F. Kennedy Causeway have
expressed concerns to representatives of the Texas General Land Office and State
Department of Highways and Public Transportation; and
WHEREAS, officials of said agencies have pledged their efforts to resolve
concerns of lessees in a manner consistent with the law and in a manner which recognizes
that the primary purpose of highway right-of-way is for highway facilities; and
WHEREAS, Senator Carlos Truan and Representative Todd Hunter are
assisting in resolving the concerns of the lessees; and
WHEREAS, the lessees have provided valuable recreational services to
citizens from throughout Texas who enjoy fishing, water sports, and other leisure activities
in the Corpus Christi area;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That State agencies are urged to consider the concerns of the
present lessees of State land on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Causeway.
SECTION 2. That the City Council supports the efforts of Senator Carlos
Truan and Representative Todd Hunter to assist in resolving the concerns of present lessees
of State land on the John F. Kennedy Memorial Causeway.
SECTION 3. That the City Secretary is instructed to send copies of this
resolution to the Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office, the District Engineer of
the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation, Senator Carlos Truan, and
State Representative Todd Hunter.
