SUPPORTING LEGISLATION
ESTABLISHING A COMPREHENSIVE
URBAN FORESTRY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, there is significant need to improve urban forests and tree
planting programs in order to protect the environment, enhance property values, and
improve the quality of life; and
WHEREAS, there are federal funds available to support urban forestry
programs; and
WHEREAS, for Texas to receive its share of such federal funds, the State
must enact legislation committing State matching funds; and
WHEREAS, participation in such programs would benefit Corpus Christi and
other municipalities;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi encourages the 72nd Texas
Legislature to enact Urban and Community Forestry legislation in order to maximize federal
dollars available to Texas for urban forestry programs.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff are directed to advise all local
legislators and other pertinent officials of this resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support urban and community forestry legislation.
