SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF
THE LADY LEX MUSEUM ON THE BAY
WHEREAS, the United States Navy plans to decommission the USS
Lexington during calendar year 1991, and to make it available for operation as a naval
museum; and
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi Bay Area has been a center for naval aviation
training for half a century; and
WHEREAS, a museum located on Corpus Christi Bay would afford the
opportunity for citizens in the central united States, as well as foreign visitors to learn of the
vital role played by Naval aviation in the nation's defense.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi wholeheartedly endorses the
concept of the Lady Lexington Museum on the Bay being located in corpus Christi Bay; and
SECTION 2. The City of Corpus Christi will, subject to the completion of
engineering and financial feasibility studies, make available a site on Corpus Christi Bay
north of the jetty on Corpus Christi Beach for such a museum.
