EXPRESSING CORPUS CHRISTI'S SUPPORT
FOR HOUSE BILL 1005
WHEREAS, various provisions exist under State law for the provision of
performance and payment bonds on Public Works Projects;
WHEREAS, there is a need to develop clear and reasonable safeguards to
assure performance and payment bonds be issued by properly licensed, capitalized, and
responsible surety companies;
WHEREAS, House Bill 1005 has been introduced to the 72nd Texas
Legislature establishing that a municipality may impose additional requirements on surety
companies offering performance and payment bonds on Public Works;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports passage of House Bill
1005.
SECTION 2. That the City of Corpus Christi respectfully suggests that House
Bill be further strengthened by specifically applying its remedial provisions to reinsurance.
SECTION 3. That the City Manager and staff are directed to advise all local
legislators and other pertinent officials of this resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support and obtain passage of House Bill 1005.
