SUPPORTING PASSAGE
OF HOUSE BILL 1599
WHEREAS, the Texas Open Meetings Act serves the essential purpose of
opening government to the public;
WHEREAS, the public notice provisions thereof are designed to permit
citizens to learn the time, place, and subject of meetings;
WHEREAS, the Act presently may be misconstrued to require public notices
to be posted in city hall rather than in convenient places near city hall; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 1599 has been introduced in the 72nd Texas
Legislature to clarify the law and permit such reasonable posting.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports House Bill 1599.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff are directed to advise all local
legislators and other pertinent officials of this resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support House Bill 1599.
