SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF HB 2522
RELATING TO LANDFILLS NEAR RESERVOIRS
WHEREAS, citizens of this area have a vital interest in safe drinking water;
WHEREAS, landfills in close proximity to domestic water supplies create an
unreasonable risk to public health; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 2522 has been introduced in the 72nd Texas
Legislature which would protect public water supplies by prohibiting permits for landfills or
expansions thereof within three miles of a reservoir designated as a water supply or one mile
of a water course flowing into such reservoir.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports House Bill 2522.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff are directed to advise all local
legislators and other pertinent officials of this resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support House Bill 2522.
