AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE UPON APPLICATION OF
DIAMOND SHAMROCK REFINING AND MARKETING COMPANY BY
GRANTING A SPECIAL COUNCIL PERMIT FOR THREE FREESTANDING
SIGNS ON LOTS 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, AND 12, BLOCK 74, BROOKLYN ADDITION,
LOCATED ON THE EAST SIDE OF EAST CAUSEWAY BOULEVARD
BETWEEN BEACH AND REEF AVENUE; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY.
WHEREAS, the Planning Commission has forwarded to the City Council its
reports and recommendations concerning the application of Diamond Shamrock Refining and
Marketing Company for amendment to the zoning map of the City of Corpus Christi.
WHEREAS, public hearing was held at which hearing all persons wishing to
appear and be heard were heard to consider the same before the City Council of the City of
Corpus Christi, in accordance with proper notice to the public, said public hearing having been
held on Tuesday, March 12, 1991, during a meeting of the City Council in the Council
Chambers at City Hall in the City of Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, by motion duly made, seconded and carried, it was decided by the
City Council that to approve the hereinafter set forth amendment would best serve public
health, necessity and convenience and the general welfare of the City of Corpus Christi and its
citizens:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, is
amended by making the change hereinafter set out.
SECTION 2. That a Special Council Permit be granted on Lots 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and
12, Block 74, Brooklyn Addition, located on the east side of East Causeway Boulevard between
Beach and Reef Avenue, situated in the City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas, for three
(3) freestanding signs, according to the site plan, a substantial copy of which is attached hereto
as Exhibit A, subject to the landscape plan and two conditions listed below, and subject to all
other considerations of 'B-1" Neighborhood Business District:
1. Landscaping: All landscaping must be installed in accordance with the attached
landscape plan. The landscaping must be installed within one (1) year of the date of this
ordinance.

2. Signs: The property is limited to three (3) freestanding signs and located as per the
attached landscape plan.
(a) Price Sign: The price sign is limited to a sign area of 32.54 square feet and a
height of 12 feet.
(b) Identification Sign. The identification sign is limited to a sign area of 40 square
feet and a height of 20 feet.
(c) Freeway Sign: The freeway -oriented identification sign is limited to a sign area of
108 square feet and a height of 55 feet.
In the event the Board of Adjustment grants any special exception or variance to
the Zoning Ordinance, applicable to the Special Permit herein granted, other than the one
specified in this Special Permit, said Special Permit shall be void and of no force and effect
whatsoever.
SECTION 3. That the official zoning map of the City of Corpus Christi, Texas, be
and the same is hereby amended as herein ordained.
SECTION 4. That the Zoning Ordinance and Map of the City of Corpus Christi,
Texas, approved on the 27th day of August, 1973, as amended from time to time, except as
herein changed, shall remain in full force and effect.
SECTION 5. That all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are
hereby expressly repealed.
SECTION 6. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members,
copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for efficient administration of
City affairs by granting the aforesaid zoning change, such finding of an emergency is made and
declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon
ordinances at three regular meetings so that this o dinance is passe nd sjl 1 take effect Pon
