SUPPORTING PASSAGE
OF SENATE BILL 785
AND HOUSE BILL 862
WHEREAS, present state law provisions for the disposition of unclaimed and
abandoned property seized by peace officers are unduly cumbersome, inflexible, and costly
to administer;
WHEREAS, present state law provisions concerning court procedures for
disposition of prohibited weapons require streamlining and clarification; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 785 and House Bill 862 have been introduced in the
72nd Texas Legislature and would create greater efficiency by providing for delivery of
unclaimed or abandoned property to a person designated by the city for notice and
disposition pursuant to shortened time periods for assertion of claims, and would permit any
magistrate to order disposition of prohibited weapons.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports Senate Bill 785 and
House Bill 862.
