SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF SENATE BILL 226 AND
HOUSE BILL 540 ESTABLISHING A LAW SCHOOL AT
TEXAS A&I UNIVERSITY
WHEREAS, public higher education in Corpus Christi and South Texas has
been historically neglected in funding, programs, and facilities;
WHEREAS, the children of Corpus Christi and of South Texas deserve and
have a fundamental right to public higher educational facilities and opportunities equal to
those in every other area of the State;
WHEREAS, a law school is needed at Texas A & I University to provide
South Texas students with professional educational opportunities, and will provide the area
with the multiple benefits of a professional institution of which South Texas has been
deprived;
WHEREAS, the Texas A & M University System is one of the finest and most
respected educational institutions in the nation and should have a law school as part of its
program; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 226 by Senator Carlos Truan and House Bill 540 by
Representative Irma Rangel have been introduced in the 72nd Texas Legislature to establish
a law school at Texas A&I University in Kingsville.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi, supports Senate Bill 226 and
House Bill 540.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff are directed to advise all local
legislators and other pertinent officials of this resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support Senate Bill 226 and House Bill 540.
