HomeMy WebLinkAbout021167 ORD - 05/21/1991AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CITY CODE SECTION 247 REGARDING THE SIX YEAR LIMIT ON SERVICE OF BOARD, COMMISSION, AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS, AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That City Code Section 2-67, Limitations on appointments, is hereby amended to read as follows: Sec. 2-67. Limitations on appointments. No person may serve as a voting member of a board, commission, or committee of the city for a period longer than six (6) years consecutively unless such service is required by virtue of the person's position or title as the result of employment or to complete an unexpired term. No person shall be appointed by the mayor or city council to serve on more than one board, commission or committee of the city at the same time unless required by charter, statute or other ordinance or when such service is required by virtue of the individual's position or title as the result of employment. The foregoing limitations do not apply to the appointment of advisory, nonvoting members to a board, commission or committee of the city. Any such advisory, nonvoting member appointed to a board, commission or committee of the city is prohibited from serving as an elected or appointed officer of the board, commission or committee to which such person has been appointed. SECTION 2. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose. SECTION 3. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need for the efficient and effective administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances at three regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 02 day of , 1991. 01104: 91105 021167 ATTEST: City Secretary g/tdr- APPROVED: (l DAY OF /`1 wy , 1991 JAMES R.
