SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION
AMENDING ELECTION CODE SECTION 41.0051
TO PERMIT SCHOOL DISTRICT ELECTIONS
ON THE SAME DATE AS MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
WHEREAS, Texas Election Code Section 41.0051 permits certain coastal
cities, including Corpus Christi, to hold general elections in April of odd -numbered years;
WHEREAS, in order to conserve tax dollars certain school districts in such
cities should be permitted to hold joint elections with such cities; and
WHEREAS, House Bill 2552 has been introduced in the 72nd Texas
Legislature to revise election dates in Chapter 41, Texas Election Code, and could be
amended to include Section 41.0051.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports amending House Bill
2552 or other appropriate legislation to permit school districts in cities governed by Section
41.0051 to hold joint elections with such cities.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff are directed to advise all local
legislators and other pertinent officials of this resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support legislation permitting such elections.
