HomeMy WebLinkAbout021182 RES - 06/18/1991A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO THE PLACEMENT OF A CLASS I NONHAZARDOUS INDUSTRIAL LANDFILL OPERATION WITHIN THE WATERSHED OF THE NUECES RIVER AND FRIO RIVER LOCATED WITHIN TWO (2) MILES OF CHOKE CANYON RESERVOIR. WHEREAS, the Coastal Bend Council of Governments, acting through its Environmental Quality Committee, has determined, based on the information available at this time and in accordance with previous positions, regarding other waste disposal operations in the proximity of Choke Canyon Reservoir and the Nueces River, recommends that the Coastal Bend Council of Governments oppose the permitting of the HALLCO Class I Nonhazardous Industrial Landfill operation in its proposed location in McMullen County, Texas; WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi has historically opposed the placement of any class or type of disposal site in the proximity of Choke Canyon Reservior or Lake Corpus Christi and their feeder rivers; WHEREAS, the location of the proposed site is within two (2) miles of Choke Canyon Reservoir and is located in both the Nueces River and Frio River watersheds, said location being within five (5) miles of the Nueces River; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi wishes to express its concern regarding the impact of this site on the water quality of all the communities in the Coastal Bend who obtain their drinking waters from the Nueces River or Frio River watersheds; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That based on the information presently available, the City of Corpus Christi hereby opposes the permitting or placement of the proposed HALLCO Class I Nonhazardous Industrial Landfill operation in McMullen County, Texas in its proposed location. SECTION 2. That until such time that the City Council has determined that appropriate safeguards and measures are implemented to protect the City's principal source of water RP1840.003.kp 021182 from the threat or harm of environmental damage, the City Manager is hereby authorized to take the steps necessary to oppose the approval or granting of any permit, license, or authorization for the proposed disposal operation.
