AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO APPLY FOR AN URBAN FORESTRY
GRANT SPONSORED BY THE SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
NATIONAL TREE PLANTING PROGRAM ON PUBLIC LANDS.
WHEREAS, the Small Business Administration has appropriated $15 Million to
implement a Tree Planting Program on Public Lands in F.Y. 1991 with states receiving
their share based on population and level of local participation;
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi is committed to enhancing the urban
environment in selected public areas through urban tree planting;
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi recognizes the need to create a positive
initial perception of our community through an enhanced urban forest; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds as a fact that many and various public
purposes will be materially promoted and enhanced by applying for the Small Business
Administration Tree Planting Program including, but not limited to, tourism, recreation,
and environmentally wholesome community fellowship.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Manager is authorized to apply for a Small Business
Administration National Tree Planting Program and is committed to ensuring that the
Corpus Christi Urban Forest Grant Request on public lands is a success.
