ENDORSING THE PROPOSED CHANGE OF NAME CORPUS
CHRISTI STATE UNIVERSITY TO TEXAS A & M UNIVERSITY
AT CORPUS CHRISTI
WHEREAS, Corpus Christi State University was made a part of the Texas A & M University System by
the 71st Legislature in its Regular Session, 1989 and is scheduled to assume status as a comprehensive, four-year
institution of higher education in 1994; and
WHEREAS, Texas A & M University has established for itself prestigious world-wide name recognition and
a reputation for excellence and achievement in the areas of scholarship, research and athletics; and
WHEREAS, Corpus Christi State University, under its new name will establish its own cherished traditions
and achievements; and
WHEREAS, more than 90% of voters in Corpus Christi State University's student body voted in favor
of changing their university's name to Texas A & M University at Corpus Christi;
WHEREAS, the community of Corpus Christi would be proud to have the name of Corpus Christi State
University changed to reflect its inclusion in the Texas A & M University System;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI:
1. The City of Corpus Christi hereby endorses the name change of Corpus Christi State University
to Texas A & M University at Corpus Christi, such change of name to be considered at the earliest possible date
by the Board of Regents of the Texas A & M University System.
2. The City of Corpus Christi further joins with all other interested community groups in the City
area seeking the name change of the university to identify it with the fine reputation of the Texas A & M University
System.
