AMENDING THE 1991-1992 CITY BUDGET ORDINANCE, NO.
021197, TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF ASSISTANT FIRE
CHIEFS FROM 5 TO 4 AND TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF
FIREFIGHTERS FROM 126 TO 128; AND DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS THAT:
SECTION 1. Section 4 of Ordinance No. 021197, approving the
1991-1992 City of Corpus Christi Budget is amended to hereafter read as follows:
SECTION 4. Firefighter Positions
The number of positions for each firefighter classification in the Fire
Department shall be:
Firefighter - 128*
Firefighter II - 131
Fire Captain - 75
District Fire Chief - 8
Assistant Fire Chief - 4
First Assistant Fire Chief - 1
Fire Chief - 1
* This number may be temporarily increased by graduates from a
fire academy authorized by the City Manager, which temporary
increase shall be reduced to authorized strength through attrition.
SECTION 2. That upon written request of the Mayor or five
Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the
need for the immediate and efficient utilization of physical resources in the City
and the need for immediate action necessary for the efficient and effective
administration of City affairs, such finding of an emergency is made and declared
requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon

tike effect upon first reading as an emergency measure this the 7 day of

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing ordinance an emergency
exists requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon
ordinances at three regular meetings; I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter
rule and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced, or at the present meeting
of the City Council.
