A RESOLUTION
EXPRESSING THE COMMITMENT OF THE CITY COUNCIL THAT THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI WILL TIMELY CONSTRUCT AND/OR
PROVIDE THE NECESSARY FUNDING FOR RIGHT-OF-WAY
ACQUISITIONS, UTILITY RELOCATIONS AND ENVIRONMENTAL
MITIGATION, IF ANY, IN SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSED TEXAS
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION'S UPGRADING AND
RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SPID TO CCSU CONNECTION ALONG
ENNIS JOSLIN ROAD.
WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature has merged Corpus Christi State University
with the Texas A&M University System and determined that Corpus Christi State University
will expand to four year status in 1994; and
WHEREAS, an immediate increase of 25 percent in the number of students
enrolled at Corpus Christi State University is anticipated when freshman and sophomore
students are accepted in 1994, and by 2010 student enrollment is projected to be three or four
times that of the current student enrollment; and
WHEREAS, a master plan for development of the Corpus Christi State University
campus has been prepared to plan for construction of additional campus facilities to serve the
larger student population; and
WHEREAS, the Texas Transportation Conunission on October 28, 1992 added
upgrading and reconstruction of the SPID connection to CCSU along Ennis Joslin to their list
of Feasibility Study projects; and
WHEREAS, the expansion of Corpus Christi State University is of enormous
importance to the community and region;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council expresses its commitment that the City of
Corpus Christi will timely construct and/or provide the necessary funding for right-of-way
acquisitions, utility relocations and environmental mitigation, if any, in support of the proposed
Texas Department of Transportation's upgrading and reconstruction of the SPID to CCSU
connection along Ennis Joslin Road.
