Home My WebLink About021524 RES - 12/01/1992A RESOLUTION GOVERNING CITY ELECTIONS IN 1993, INCLUDING APPOINTMENT AND COMPENSATION OF ELECTION OFFICIALS, VOTING SYSTEMS, BALLOT BOXES, AND CENTRAL COUNTING STATION. WHEREAS, regular City Council elections are scheduled for April 1993 and other City elections may be scheduled at other times in 1993; and WHEREAS, such elections should be conducted efficiently in accordance with the Texas Election Code sections recited below; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS, THAT: SECTION 1. This Resolution shall govern all City of Corpus Christi elections during calendar year 1993. SECTION 2. Presiding Judges and Alternate Presiding Judges are appointed as specified in attached Exhibit A, which is incorporated herein (Sec. 32.005). Each Presiding Judge shall appoint not less than two nor more than four election clerks, one of whom shall be the precinct's Alternate Presiding Judge appointed herein (Secs. 32.031, 32.033). SECTION 3. Dorothy Himmel is appointed Presiding Judge of the Early Voting Ballot Board (Sec. 87.002), and Presiding Judge of the Central Counting Station (Sec. 127.005). SECTION 4. Armando Chapa is appointed Manager of the Central Counting Station (Sec. 127.002). SECTION 5. Diana Barrera is appointed Tabulation Supervisor of the Central Counting Station (Sec. 127.003). SECTION 6. Norma Marshall, Yolanda Hernandez, and Joe Casarez are approved as Assistants to the Tabulation Supervisor (Sec. 127.003). SECTION 7. City Secretary Armando Chapa is appointed the authority responsible for the conduct of City elections including training and is directed to make all necessary arrangements to lawfully conduct elections. He is authorized to contract with Nueces County for the use of electronic voting equipment, voting machines, and related support (Sec. 123.032) and to contract with others for election supplies and services in accordance with City purchasing procedures. SECTION 8. Compensation for persons appointed in or pursuant to this resolution shall be: Ord5/91191/skp 021524 1f (a) Appointments under Sections 2 and 3, election clerks, and deputy clerks who are not City employees: $5.00 per hour for services rendered, subject to Section 32.091; $25 for delivering precinct election records, keys to ballot boxes, or other election equipment, and unused election supplies after an election (Sec. 32.092); $5 for one hour of training for Presiding and Alternate Judges. Overtime to be paid as per Fair Labor Standards Act. The electronic voting system approved by the Secretary of State for Nueces County is adopted for early voting; Shoups mechanical voting machines are adopted for regular voting (Sec. 123.001). SECTION 10. Sealed ballot boxes shall be used in accordance with Chapter 127, Subchapter C, Election Code. SECTION 11.
