SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 657.
WHEREAS,
1. Unfunded state and federal mandates to local governments
are a direct burden on local taxpayers outside the control of
local officials.
2. Local taxpayers should be told the impact of unfunded
federal and state mandates.
3. Tax increases required by state and federal mandates
should be exempt from rollback since they are outside the
control of local authorities.
4. House Bill 657 would insure public education on mandates
and remove taxes caused by mandates from rollback.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports
House Bill 657 and other substantially similar legislation.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff, as well as
the Mayor and council members, are authorized to communicate to all
local legislators and other pertinent officials the City's position
expressed in this Resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support the position expressed herein.
