SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION 10 AND SENATE BILL
223
WHEREAS,
1. Many qualified historically underutilized businesses are
unable to procure surety bonds necessary to government public
works projects.
2. Protection of taxpayers requires that surety bonds be posted
for contractors on public works contracts.
3. Senate Joint Resolution 10 and Senate Bill 223 would authorize
creation of a state fund to provide surety bonds for
historically underutilized businesses.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi supports
Senate Joint Resolution 10 and Senate Bill 223 and other
substantially similar legislation.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff, as well as
the Mayor and council members, are authorized to communicate to all
local legislators and other pertinent officials the City's position
expressed in this Resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support the position expressed herein.
