OPPOSING PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 31
WHEREAS,
1. Present law requires performance and payment bonds for
contracts exceeding $25,000 and prohibits the city from
requiring a bond for projects which do not exceed that amount.
2. House Bill 31 would increase that threshold to $100,000.
3. Passage of HB 31 would increase risk to City taxpayers in
connection with public works projects.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi opposes House
Bill 31 and other substantially similar legislation.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff, as well as
the Mayor and council members, are authorized to communicate to all
local legislators and other pertinent officials the City's position
expressed in this Resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support the position expressed herein.
