SUPPORTING PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION TO CHANGE THE NAME OF
CORPUS CHRISTI STATE UNIVERSITY TO TEXAS A & M - CORPUS
CHRISTI
WHEREAS,
1. Corpus Christi State University is an integral and important
part of the Corpus Christi community.
2. CCSU's inclusion in the Texas A & M University System is
highly beneficial to Corpus Christi and South Texas.
3. That association with Texas A & M should be reflected in
CCSU's name.
4. Senator Carlos Truan introduced Rider No. 1 to Article 3 of
Senate Bill 5 which would change the name of Corpus Christi
State University to University of Texas A & M - Corpus
Christi.
5. The Board of Regents of the Texas A & M system is also
considering such a name change.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi strongly
supports the name change to Texas A & M University - Corpus Christi
as reflected in Rider No. 1 to Article 3 of Senate Bill 5, and
supports action by the Texas A & M Board of Regents to make such
name change.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff, as well as
the Mayor and council members, are authorized to communicate to all
local legislators and other pertinent officials the City's position
expressed in this Resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support the position expressed herein.
