COMMENDING SENATOR CARLOS TRUAN FOR HIS SUCCESSFUL
EFFORTS TO CHANGE THE NAME OF CORPUS CHRISTI STATE
UNIVERSITY TO TEXAS A&M - CORPUS CHRISTI
WHEREAS, the expansion and stature of Corpus Christi State
University is essential to the City of Corpus Christi and its
citizens; and
WHEREAS, the /1st Texas Legislature expanded CCSU's role to a
four year university and included it in the Texas A&M University
System, which was accomplished through the efforts of many
citizens, of whom Senator Carlos Truan was one of the primary
leaders; and
WHEREAS, in this 73rd Session of the Texas Legislature,
Senator Carlos Truan has been the stalwart leader of efforts to
change the name of Corpus Christi State University to Texas A&M -
Corpus Christi; and
WHEREAS, Senator Truan's efforts have been successful in
persuading the Texas A&M Board of Regents to make the name change;
and
WHEREAS, the change to Texas A&M - Corpus Christi more visibly
associates the university and the City of Corpus Christi with a
renowned university system, which will benefit the City and its
citizens far into the future.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
The City Council, on behalf of the City of Corpus Christi and
its citizens, expresses to Senator Carlos Truan the community's
deep gratitude and appreciation for his diligent and untiring
efforts to accomplish the change to Texas A&M - Corpus Christi, and
his efforts in behalf of higher education in this area.
