OPPOSING PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 703
WHEREAS,
1. Local police chiefs are fully capable of managing their
personnel and taking disciplinary action where appropriate.
2. House Bill 703 would grossly impair the authority of police
chiefs to manage their departments by creating an expensive,
political agency to make final departmental personnel
decisions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi opposes House
Bill 703 and other substantially similar legislation.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff, as well as
the Mayor and council members, are authorized to communicate to all
local legislators and other pertinent officials the City's position
expressed in this Resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support the position expressed herein.
