OPPOSING PASSAGE OF HOUSE BILL 1328
WHEREAS,
1. The employment -at -will doctrine has been selected by many
public employers for all or part of their workforce as the
most efficient and accountable employment system to serve
taxpayers.
2. Public employers should continue to have such flexibility in
managing their workforce to carry out their public duties.
3. House Bill 1328 would prevent employers from using at -will
employment for employees at any level who have 10 years
tenure.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi opposes House
Bill 1328 and other substantially similar legislation.
SECTION 2. That the City Manager and staff, as well as
the Mayor and council members, are authorized to communicate to all
local legislators and other pertinent officials the City's position
expressed in this Resolution, and to take all steps necessary to
support the position expressed herein.
