Concerning TCI Cablevision of Texas, Inc.'s
Realignment of Channels
Whereas, on April 1, 1993 TCI Cablevision of Texas, Inc. (TCI) realigned several cable
channels, including moving Cable News Network (CNN) from channel 6 to channel 37; and
Whereas, many television sets are not capable of receiving channel 37 without a converter; and
Whereas, renting a converter from TCI costs $4.31 monthly, and purchasing a converter from
a local merchant costs approximately $80.00; and
Whereas, prior to TCI's realignment of channels, CNN was transmitted on the basic service tier
and is now transmitted on expanded basic service; and
Whereas, the basic service tier now consists of channels 2 through 22 and expanded basic
service consists of channels 23 through 40; and
Whereas, numerous citizens have requested that TCI reconsider the placement of CNN.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City Council urges TCI to return the Cable News Network channel to the
first tier of channels (2 through 22).
Section 2: That the City Secretary is instructed to send copies of this resolution to TCI's
General Manager Dennis Moore and Area Manager Randy Grimes.

For the reasons set forth in the emergency clause of the foregoing
ordinance an emergency exists requiring suspension of the Charter
rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances at two regular
meetings: I/we, therefore, request that you suspend said Charter
rule and pass this ordinance finally on the date it is introduced,
or at the present meeting of the City Council.
