SUPPORTING CORPUS CHRISTI
AREA DEFENSE FACILITIES
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi area has maintained a long
and proud partnership with defense facilities of the United States;
and
WHEREAS, Corpus Christi area defense facilities,
including Naval Station Ingleside, the Corpus Christi Naval Air
Station, the Kingsville Naval Air Station, and the Corpus Christi
Army Depot, are highly efficient and vital to the national defense
in an era of military reductions; and
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi area has demonstrated its
strong support for local military facilities through substantial
financial contributions as well as through other actions and
expressions of its local governments, businesses, and citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi area is uniquely suited by
virtue of climate, location, and economical cost of living to
provide a home for existing and additional facilities; and
WHEREAS, the federal government is considering the value
of continuing various defense facilities throughout the nation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi expresses its
strongest support for continuation of defense related facilities in
the Corpus Christi area, and pledges its determination to continue
to work with federal authorities to make our local facilities
highly efficient and enable those facilities to make the greatest
possible contribution to national security at the lowest possible
cost to taxpayers.
SECTION 2. That the City of Corpus Christi pledges
$100,000 in further evidence of its support for the continuation of
naval and other defense operations in this area.
SECTION 3. That this Resolution be distributed to all
public officials concerned with determining location of defense
related facilities.
