EXPRESSING SUPPORT AND APPRECIATION TO CONGRESSMAN RONALD
D. COLEMAN, A MEMBER OF THE TEXAS CONGRESSIONAL
DELEGATION, WHO TESTIFIED ON BEHALF OF CORPUS CHRISTI AND
THE BAY AREA BEFORE THE BASE CLOSURE COMMISSION IN
SUPPORT OF SOUTH TEXAS' MILITARY BASES.
WHEREAS, the Corpus Christi and the Bay Area Military
Installations were not on the original base closure list being
reviewed by the Base Closure Commission;
WHEREAS, after a presentation by the South Carolina
Congressional Delegation to remove the Charleston Military
Installations from the base closure list (this presentation
comparing Charleston South Carolina to the Corpus Christi and the
Bay Area) the Base Closure Commission added the Corpus Christi
Naval Air Station, Naval Hospital, and Naval Station Ingleside, to
the base closure list;
WHEREAS, the Texas Congressional Delegation rallied together
to develop a response, and then testify with strong support and
data on behalf of the Corpus Christi and Bay Area Military
Installations, at the Base Closure Commission meeting held
Wednesday, June 16th, in Washington, D.C.;
WHEREAS, our nations' top military officials testified the
following day before the Base Closure Commission reiterating and
further supporting their position that the Corpus Christi and Bay
Area Military Installations should be removed from the proposed
base closure list:
WHEREAS, the City of Corpus Christi wishes to convey its
sincere appreciation to each member of the Texas Congressional
Delegation for his or her effort on behalf of the Corpus Christi
and Bay Area Military Installations;
WHEREAS, this effort by the Texas Congressional Delegation
will weigh heavily in the future deliberations of the Base Closure
Commission and hopefully will result in the Corpus Christi and Bay
Area Military Installations being removed from the base closure
list.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi expresses its
strongest appreciation to Congressman Ronald D. Coleman, a member
of the Texas Congressional Delegation, for his testimony and
support in favor of removing the Corpus Christi and Bay Area
Military Installations from the proposed base closure list now
under consideration by the Base Closure Commission.

SECTION 2. That this Resolution be distributed to Congressman
Ronald D. Coleman, a member of the Texas Congressional Delegation,
and other appropriate public officials.
