SUPPORTING NUECES COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COURT IN
ESTABLISHING A SPORTS FACILITY DISTRICT.
WHEREAS, Chapter 325 of the Local Government Code authorizes the County
Commissioners Court to create a sports facility district to finance and effect the
construction, acquisition, or operation of a sports facility to serve the County; and
WHEREAS, the same law requires the Board of Directors to be appointed by the
Commissioners Court, the largest municipality, and the largest school district in the County;
and
WHEREAS, the Nueces County Commissioners Court has proposed establishing such
a sports facility district; and
WHEREAS, the Nueces County Commissioners Court has asked the City of Corpus
Christi, as Nueces County's largest municipality, and CCISD, as Nueces County's largest
school district, to publicly express their support for establishing such a sports facility district;
and
WHEREAS, there is a need for improved sports facilities in Nueces County; and
WHEREAS, the first task for the sports facility district to undertake is a feasibility
study to determine the best way to acquire and develop the sports facility:
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council supports Nueces County Commissioners Court
in establishing a Nueces County Sports Facility District.
