HomeMy WebLinkAbout021747 ORD - 09/14/1993AN ORDINANCE APPROPRIATING A $35,000 U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION GRANT TO CONTINUE A FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM AT THE GREENWOOD BRANCH LIBRARY; APPROPRIATING A $15,000 U.S. DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION GRANT TO PURCHASE FOREIGN LANGUAGE MATERIALS AT THE GREENWOOD BRANCH LIBRARY; APPROPRIATING $133,000 OF A $714,726 GRANT FROM THE TEXAS STATE LIBRARY FOR CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE SOUTH TEXAS LIBRARY SYSTEM; PROVIDING FOR SEVERANCE; AND DECLARING AN EMERGENCY. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That there is hereby appropriated a $35,000 U.S. Department of Education grant to continue a Family Literacy Program at the Greenwood Branch Library. SECTION 2. That there is hereby appropriated a $15,000 U.S. Department of Education grant to purchase foreign language materials at the Greenwood Branch Library. SECTION 3. That there is hereby appropriated $133,000 of a $714,726 grant from the Texas State Library for continued operation of the South Texas Library System located at Corpus Christi Public Library for State fiscal year 1993-94. SECTION 4. That this hereby amends budget ordinance No. 021707 by adding t -ie amounts appropriated herein to the Library Fund. SECTION 5. If for any reason any section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance shall be held invalid or unconstitutional by final judgment of a court of competent jurisdiction, it shall not affect any other section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision of this ordinance for it is the definite intent of this City Council that every section, paragraph, subdivision, clause, phrase, word or provision hereof be given full force and effect for its purpose. That upon written request of the Mayor or five Council members, copy attached, to find and declare an emergency due to the need to take immediate action to preserve and protect public property by expediting the construction of public improvements, such finding of an emergency is made and declared requiring suspension of the Charter rule as to consideration and voting upon ordinances at two regular meetings so that this ordinance is passed and shall take effect pon irs reading as an emergency measure this the Ay day of P��i2 , 19 Ff. .
