HomeMy WebLinkAbout021753 RES - 09/28/1993• RESOLUTION CHALLENGING THE REASONABLENESS OF TCI CABLEVISION OF TEXAS, INC.'8 RATES FOR CABLE PROGRAMMING SERVICE (EXPANDED BASIC SERVICE) OR ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL ACTIONS NECESSARY OR APPROPRIATE TO CAUSE THE FEDERAL COMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION TO EXAMINE THE REASONABLENESS OF SUCH RATES. WHEREAS, TCI Cablevision of Texas, Inc. ("TCI") is the grantee of a franchise granted by the City of Corpus Christi, Texas; and WHEREAS, citizens have complained about rates charged by TCI, in effect on September 1, 1993, for cable programming service (expanded basic service); NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS: SECTION 1. That the reasonableness of TCI's rates for cable programming service or associated equipment is hereby challenged. The City Manager is authorized to take all actions necessary or appropriate to cause the Federal Communications Commission (the "FCC") to examine the reasonableness of such rates and to cause the FCC to order refunds or prospective rate reductions where rates are found to be unreasonable. SECTION 2. That the City Secretary is instructed to send a copy of this resolution to TCI's General Manager Dennis Moore and TCI's Area Manager Randy Grimes.
