REQUESTING THAT A PORTION OF RIGHT-OF-WAY FOR U.S.
HIGHWAY 181 (EAST CAUSEWAY BOULEVARD) NEAR THE
INTERSECTION WITH BREAKWATER AVENUE, BE REMOVED FROM
THE STATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM; THAT MAINTENANCE AND
JURISDICTION PASS TO THE CITY OF CORPUS CHRISTI; AND
DECLARING THAT THIS AREA IS NO LONGER NEEDED FOR USE BY
CITIZENS FOR ROADWAY PURPOSES.
WHEREAS, when U.S. Highway 181 (East Causeway Boulevard) was developed in
the late 1950's, a large amount of right-of-way was acquired at the intersection with
Breakwater Boulevard to accommodate a major intersection design; and
WHEREAS, with the current configuration of the roadways and with no future plans
to reconfigure the roadways, some of this right-of-way is now considered to be excess; and
WHEREAS, the adjacent property owners have approached the City and Texas
Department of Transportation to declare this area excess and transfer ownership; and
WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Transportation has requested a Resolution by
the City to initiate the process of declaring this area excess.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Corpus Christi,
Texas:
SECTION 1. That the City of Corpus Christi request that a portion of right-of-way
for U.S. Highway 181 (East Causeway Boulevard) near the intersection with Breakwater
Avenue, as shown on Exhibit "A" attached hereto, be removed from the State Highway
System; that maintenance and jurisdiction pass to the City of Corpus Christi; and declaring
that this area is no longer needed for use by citizens for roadway purposes.
